Roosevelt's Errors Prove Costly Against Cardinals

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – A rough day in the field cost Roosevelt in a 16-3 loss to Saginaw Valley State on Saturday in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action in University Center, Mich.

The Lakers committed six errors in the field, which led to five unearned runs, and could not overcome the early deficit they found themselves in. The Cardinals jumped out to an 8-0 lead after three innings with half of those runs being unearned and Roosevelt (6-14, 1-1 GLIAC) never got closer than six runs the rest of the day.

Roosevelt had some early chances to continue its offensive domination, starting with James Berry's one-out triple in the first inning. Kekoa Ogawa followed with a walk, but both he and Berry were stranded on the base paths. The Lakers again moved a runner to third in the second inning before a groundout ended the threat.

Jack Kieffer got the fourth inning started with a single then Jack Hoh followed with a double to put two runners in scoring position with no outs. Kyle Jannenga drove in one run with an RBI groundout and Hoh scored on a wild pitch before the Lakers stranded the bases loaded in the frame.

Ogawa led off the fifth with a single then Kieffer followed with another single to again put the first two runners on base. An infield single from Jannenga loaded the bases with one out, but Roosevelt only scored on a sacrifice fly from Quinn O'Bryan. Roosevelt had just three base runners over the final four innings, two of which came on a walk and one on an error from Saginaw Valley State.

Kieffer finished the game 2 for 4 with a run scored while Ogawa was 1 for 3 with a walk and a run scored.

UP NEXT: The Lakers and Cardinals close out their four-game series Sunday with a doubleheader starting at 10 a.m.
