BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Roosevelt couldn't survive a second-half surge against No. 15 Ferris State as the Lakers fell 96-72 to the Bulldogs on Monday in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest in Big Rapids, Mich.
The first half was a tightly-contested affair between the two sides with neither team gaining much separation until the final five minutes. Ferris State scored nine of the first 11 points in the game, but the Lakers (6-14, 3-9 GLIAC) were able to go on a 10-3 run to tie the game just seven minutes in. Roosevelt held a pair of two-point leads courtesy of two
Daniel Reed free throws and a
Kennedy Brown tip-in.
Khalil Haywood scored the first points of the second half off a feed from
Fred Robinson IV that cut the Lakers' deficit down to five. However, Ferris State scored 16 straight points before
Forte Prater ended the drought with a dunk nearly five and a half minutes after Haywood's layup. Prater scored 16 of his team-high 24 points in the second half, but Roosevelt not go closer than 16 points the rest of the way.
Brown and Robinson both eked into double figures late in the action with Robinson finishing with 11 points and Brown ending on 12. Haywood grabbed a team-best seven
rebounds, one more than Robinson was able to secure, while Robinson and Prater both assisted five times.
UP NEXT: Roosevelt returns home for the first time in more than two weeks on Thursday when the Lakers welcome Parkside to the Goodman Center for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
