Roosevelt Falls To No. 6 Ferris State

CHICAGO – Forte Prater again led the charge for Roosevelt in a 95-72 setback against No. 6 Ferris State on Saturday at the Goodman Center in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.

The senior guard dropped 30 points for the second straight game, becoming the first player since Roosevelt's inaugural 2010-11 season to score at least 30 points in consecutive games. Prater scored 20 points in the first half to help keep the Lakers (2-6, 0-2 GLIAC) in the game after Ferris State charged out to a 14-2 lead less than four minutes into the contest.

Roosevelt struggled to find its offensive footing as the Bulldogs took a commanding lead with Prater supplying the only offense for the first seven minutes. The senior scored the Lakers' first 11 points before Griffin Yaklich made a jumper to cut the Ferris State lead to 22-13, the last time Roosevelt was within single digits.

Ferris State took a 29-point lead into the locker room at halftime, but the gritty Lakers didn't let the Bulldogs run away with the game. Roosevelt won the second half 39-33 behind a team commitment to scoring points in the difficult areas. The Lakers scored 10 points off turnovers in the second half and added 12 second-chance points on 12 offensive rebounds. Roosevelt finished with 23 points off turnovers and 22 second-chance points in the game.

The grit extended to Enari Thomas and Fred Robinson IV adding some critical scoring by getting to the basket. Thomas scored 12 of his 16 in the second half and Robinson added seven of his 10 points in the final 20 minutes to help Roosevelt cut the deficit below 20 on a handful of occasions.

Drew King also played a large role in the second half, crashing the boards for seven rebounds in the second half, including four on the offensive end. The freshman finished with a season-best nine boards and recorded a block for the third consecutive game. King and Robinson especially helped Roosevelt score 18 points off the bench, the most the Lakers have scored this season against an NAIA or NCAA opponent.

UP NEXT: Roosevelt will reset during finals week before facing off with Marian (Ind.) on Dec. 14 at the Goodman Center for a 3 p.m. tipoff.
