Arlington Heights, Ill. – The final whistle sounded and the Roosevelt men's soccer team rushed the field in celebration as the Lakers completed a dream regular season as Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champions with a 1-0 victory over #9 Saginaw Valley State on Sunday afternoon at Morris Field.

Oskar Schuster tallied the lone goal in the contest between the league's top two sides, deftly heading home a cross from Nick Killian in the 17
th minute. It was his team-best eighth goal of the season.
Roosevelt made its lone goal stand up, despite playing the match's final 20 minutes a man down, with targeted possession and an unrelenting defense. Keeper
Eric Carvajal collected his sixth clean sheet of the year with three saves, and the Lakers have now not allowed a goal in their last 195 minutes of play.
The win capped an impressive and historic inaugural regular season of NCAA Division II competition for the Lakers. Pegged for the bottom of the standings in the conference preseason poll, Roosevelt finished the campaign with an 8-4 GLIAC and 10-4-2 overall record. The Lakers tied the Cardinals (11-5-0, 8-4-0) at the top of the conference standings, but claimed the regular-season crown and top seed in the upcoming GLIAC Tournament by winning its two meetings with nationally-ranked Saginaw Valley State. The Lakers edged the Cardinals, 2-1, back on Sept. 27 in University Center, Mich. Roosevelt's win on Sunday snapped the Cardinals' seven-match winning streak.
The GLIAC title is the first by any program at Roosevelt since joining the league this past July.
Up Next: With the regular season title in hand, Roosevelt earns a week off and a bye into the semifinals of the 2024 GLIAC Tournament which it will host at Morris Field. The Lakers opening match will take place on Friday, November 15, with the opponent and match time to be announced at a later date.
