HAMMOND, Ind. – Roosevelt's third-set rally came up a bit short as the Lakers fell in straight sets to Southwest Baptist on Friday at the Midwest Regional Crossover in Hammond, Ind.
The first set seemingly slipped past the Lakers (1-16) as an early 6-6 tie turned into a 17-9 deficit before the Bearcats won 25-15. Roosevelt fell behind early in the second set, but crawled back to 12-11 in the middle of the game before Southwest Baptist ran away with an 8-0 run en route to a 25-19 victory. The third set was a back-and-forth affair as the lead changed hands seven times and it was tied 15 times before the Bearcats eked out a 26-24 victory.
Aleksandra Barac led the Lakers with 12 kills and eight digs in her best performance during her brief time at Roosevelt.
Viktoria Marysheva added nine kills and
Emily DeBlecourt had a pair of massive solo blocks in the third set.
Isa Grana directed the offense with 22 assists and also added five digs on defense.
UP NEXT: The Lakers return to Hammond on Saturday for the second day of the Crossover. Roosevelt will face William Jewell at 9 a.m. then take on McKendree at 4:30 p.m. at the Hammond Sportsplex.
