Box Score HOWELL, Mich. – The Roosevelt University men's soccer team opened the 2022 season with a 3-1 victory over Cleary University on the road on Saturday, September 3, earning Paddy Hoepp his first collegiate victory as head coach of the Lakers.
The game did not start as planned for RU with Cleary striking first to take a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute. However, the Lakers answered back just under two minutes later when Valerio Joos scored his first collegiate goal to even the game at 1-1. Oskar Schuster then scored his first collegiate goal in the 33rd minute to give the Lakers a 2-1 advantage, which they held at the half.
Roosevelt dominated the second half, outshooting Cleary 9-2 in the period, and added to their lead with Schuster tallying his second goal of the game in the 52nd minute. Neither team would find the back of the net in the final 38 minutes of play, and RU registered the first win of the year and of Coach Hoepp's coaching career.
