Box Score 2 ADRIAN, Mich. – The Roosevelt University women's volleyball team wrapped up play on Saturday, September 4 in the Siena Heights University Invitational, sweeping Bluefield University (Va.) in straight sets and falling to Oakland City University in five sets. The split moved the Lakers overall record to 2-7 on the year.
In the opening match win over Bluefield, the Lakers set the tone early on and led the first set from start to finish to win 25-15 to take a 1-0 lead. RU trailed in the second set late, but overcame a three-point deficit and scored seven of the last eight points to win 25-22. Another late surge propelled the Lakers in the third set with RU breaking a 16-16 tie with a 9-2 run to take the set 25-18 and sweep the match.
The Lakers looked like they might have a repeat performance versus Oakland City, jumping out to a 2-0 match lead after winning 25-23 and 25-21. However, Oakland City won the next two sets to even things up at 2-2 and broke a 3-3 tie in the final set with six consecutive points to take control, winning the set 15-7 and the match 3-2.
