Box Score WHITING, Ind. – The Roosevelt University women's volleyball team defeated Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) in straight sets on Thursday, March 18 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action to win its first match of the 2021 spring season.
The Lakers trailed by six points at 21-15 late in the first set, but came back to take a 24-23 lead behind two kills each from Alyssa Stilley (SO/Greenwood, Ind.) and Destiny Little-Hurd (SR/Lansing, Ill.). After the Crimson Wave scored the next point to even it up at 24-24, Little-Hurd came through once again for the Lakers with two straight kills to take the set 26-24.
Calumet St. Joseph scored the first three points of the second set and then led 4-1, but Roosevelt rattled off 11 consecutive points and never looked back, steamrolling the Crimson Wave for a 25-9 set win to take a 2-0 match lead.
In the third set, once again the Crimson Wave jumped out to a quick 5-2 advantage and once again the Lakers came right back, this time scoring seven points in a row to lead 9-5. Roosevelt's lead would never be less than three points the rest of the way with the Lakers winning the set 25-18 to sweep the Crimson Wave for their first victory of the season.
