Men's Soccer Scores With Just Seconds Left to Earn CCAC Conference Victory Over Saint Xavier

Box Score

CHICAGO – The Roosevelt University men's soccer team traveled to the south side of Chicago and defeated Saint Xavier University by the score of 1-0 on Tuesday, October 19 in CCAC Conference action at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field.  The victory raised the Lakers conference record to 7-4 and their overall record to 7-5-1 on the year.

The Lakers dominated the first half offensively, outshooting the Cougars 14-5 and making their goalkeeper make eight saves in the first 45 minutes.  Despite controlling the play, the game remained scoreless at the half.

The second half evened out in play with Roosevelt holding a slight 9-7 edge in shots in the period.  Once again, both teams were unable to score and it appeared the game was heading to overtime.  However, the Cougars committed a foul in their own box with just 12 seconds remaining in regulation, resulting in a Laker penalty kick.  For the second straight game, Andy Lomeli walked to the penalty spot with a chance to win the game for his team and he did just that, converting his shot to give the Lakers an important 1-0 CCAC Conference win to bolster their postseason hopes.
