CHICAGO – Ashley Smoldt led all players with 19 points, and the Roosevelt women's basketball team led its game against Governors State from start to finish thanks to its strong defensive effort as the Lakers came away with a 66-50 decision at the Goodman Center on Wednesday.
Lindzy Cox added 17 points and seven rebounds, Tanea White came off the bench for 11 points, and Erionna Moore had eight rebounds for the Lakers (5-16, 4-9 CCAC).
Sharnita Breeze led Governors State (8-13, 5-8 CCAC) with 17 points.
Roosevelt held the Jaguars to 2-for-18 shooting in the opening quarter, and it didn't get much better for the guests as the Lakers forced GSU to shoot 25 percent from the field and just 1-for-18 from downtown for the entirety of the game.
Despite turning the ball over 20 times, the Lakers were able to overcome their giveaways behind balance scoring and their scoring defense.
Roosevelt will seek its third conference win in a row as it hosts Holy Cross (Ind.) at the Goodman Center on Saturday at 1 p.m.
