BRIDGEVEW, Ill. – Joe Oswin and Luis Arreola scored goals to lead the Roosevelt men's soccer team past Governors State, 2-0, in the Lakers' CCAC opener at SeatGeek Stadium on Saturday.
Mario Graciano made four saves in a shutout effort for the Lakers (3-3-0, 1-0-0 CCAC), who outshot the Jaguars (3-2-0, 1-1-0 CCAC) by a wide 21-9 margin.
Oswin opened the scoring in the 22nd minute after Jose Solis found the Englishman on the run and in prime position to convert.
The game stayed 1-0 until about a minute into the second half, when Albert Arabik set up Arreola for a premium chance that the 6-foot-4 Wheeling native struck past the GSU keeper.
From that point it was a battle of wills as both sides played a gritty match with Governors State seeking to get on the scoreboard and Roosevelt seeking to maintain its advantage.
