Women's Basketball's Late Rally Not Enough In Road Loss At Governors State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. – A double-double by Lindzy Cox was not enough as host Governors State held off the Roosevelt women's basketball team's fourth-quarter rally from nine points down late to secure a 54-49 victory in a defensive battle at The ARC on Wednesday.

Cox led the Lakers (2-8, 1-4 CCAC) with 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while fellow senior JayShari Chears added 14 points.

Cearrah Huddleston chipped in six points and eight rebounds.

Hydeia Thomas led all players with 21 points for the Jaguars (5-7, 2-3 CCAC).

Wednesday was a defensive battle as both teams, ravaged by injuries, struggled from the field and combined for 37 turnovers.

Governors State used a 9-0 run to break open a tie game late in the fourth, but Roosevelt roared back with an 8-1 burst capped by Chears' three-pointer with 43 ticks left in regulation.

The Lakers got the ball back on a GSU turnover, but Roosevelt gave it right back and couldn't get any closer.

Roosevelt takes on Cardinal Stritch in Milwaukee this Saturday at 1 p.m.
