Men's Soccer Shuts Out Calumet St. Joseph, 3-0

BRIDGVIEW, Ill. – Unassisted goals scored by Oscar Gaytan, Anibal Mendoza and Jose Solis complemented a stingy defense quarterbacked by keeper Mario Graciano, and the Roosevelt men's soccer team pitched its second straight shutout in defeating Calumet St. Joseph, 3-0, at Toyota Park on Friday afternoon.

Roosevelt (4-6-0, 3-1-0 CCAC) turned in its third clean sheet in the last four outings behind three saves from Graciano and dominant possession that resulted in the Lakers outshooting the Crimson Wave (0-10-0, 0-3-0 CCAC) 22-6.

Gaytan got the scoring started with a run up the right side and a far-post attempt that nestled the net in the 21st minute.

Mendoza had a highlight-reel dribble and run, working his magic to slice through the CCSJ defense and easily beat keeper Andres Aguilar in the 57th minute.

In the 65th minute, Solis was given the chance to show what he could do on a free kick, and the rookie from Solorio unleashed a wicked shot that hugged the twine to establish a three-goal advantage.

Friday marked the second consecutive game that Gaytan and Mendoza scored goals.

The Lakers head to Deerfield to face Trinity International next Wednesday.
