Late Holy Cross Goal Sends Men's Soccer To 1-0 Loss

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. – Nate Mendez scored in the 82nd minute for visiting Holy Cross (Ind.) as the Roosevelt men's soccer team couldn't find the net and suffered a 1-0 loss at Toyota Park on Saturday.

Jesus Velasco made four saves and Roosevelt (5-7-1, 4-2-1 CCAC) outshot the Saints (5-9-0, 4-3-0 CCAC) 12-9 to go with an 8-1 corner kick advantage.

Unfortunately for the Lakers, they could not scratch across a score against keeper Lewis Tomlinson and Holy Cross, and with the match still scoreless late it was the Saints who broke through when Elliot Sked sent a ball left to Mendez, who was able to get a 1v1 look at goal and beat a low-crouching Velasco with a high corner shot toward the far post.

Roosevelt pushed forward but could not get the equalizer.

The Lakers face St. Francis (Ill.) in Joliet on Wednesday night.
