EAST CHICAGO, Ind. – A balanced attack produced four goals within a span of 40 game minutes for the Roosevelt men's soccer team, allowing the Lakers to come away with a 4-2 road win over Calumet St. Joseph on Saturday afternoon.
Jose Garcia, Israel Mata, Lucas Garcia Bennett and Sergio Fuentes scored goals for the Lakers (4-6-0, 3-1-0 CCAC), who notched their second straight conference win and remain unbeaten on the road against CCAC foes this fall.
Garcia opened the scoring with his usual magic in the 23rd minute to put Roosevelt on the scoreboard and record his team-leading fifth goal of the year.
Mata tallied his first career goal for the Lakers on a corner kick in the 45th minute, and 140 seconds after the second-half kickoff it was Garcia Bennett replicating Mata's feat as the rookie struck for his first collegiate tally.
Fuentes scored his second of the season in the 61st minute, putting Roosevelt up 4-0.
Gary Mendoza made three saves and left with a shutout after 79 minutes of work between the posts.
Calumet St. Joseph (4-5-1, 2-2-0 CCAC) scored its two goals in the 82rd and 89th minute with the game already out of reach.
