GOSHEN, Ind. – The Roosevelt men's soccer team matched the pressure of host Goshen (Ind.), but the Leafs were able to get on the scoreboard in the middle of the first half and tacked on two insurance goals in the second period to upend the Lakers by a final of 3-0 on Saturday.
Jesus Velasco made four saves and Sergio Fuentes led the Lakers (1-2-0) with three shots on goal.
Roosevelt nearly matched the hosts in terms of shot output, with 13 total shots and seven attempts on frame for the Lakers being just one short in each category as compared to the Leafs (2-1-0) and their 14 total shots and eight on target.
Stuart Aeschliman struck first for Goshen in the 26th minute on a free kick, and the Leafs put up key insurance in the 63rd and 87th minutes to keep Roosevelt's rally at bay.
Roosevelt returns home to host Bethel (Ind.) on Labor Day at 1 p.m. at Toyota Park.
