Garcia's Game-Winning Goal Sends Men's Soccer Past St. Ambrose In OT

DAVENPORT, Iowa - Jose Garcia's career has been full of clutch moments, and the Roosevelt University senior added another game-winning memory to his arsenal of big strikes on Wednesday evening.

The Wheeling, Ill. native bagged the game-winning goal in golden fashion just 25 seconds into overtime, lifting the Roosevelt men's soccer team to a 1-0 road win at St. Ambrose at the St. Vincent's Athletic Complex pitch.

Garcia tallied the unassisted beauty shortly after the opening kick of the extra session, needing less than half a minute to find the back of the net and give Roosevelt (3-6-0, 2-1-0 CCAC) the result.

The goal was Garcia's fourth of the fall.

St. Ambrose (1-7-2, 1-2-0 CCAC) hung around with the Lakers despite the guests in Green and White controlling possession for most of the match.

Roosevelt unleashed nine shots in regulation but needed just Garcia's quick attempt to make the Lakers' sole overtime shot count on the scoreboard.

Gary Mendoza made a pair of saves in earning the clean sheet in 91 minutes of work.

Roosevelt tangles with Calumet St. Joseph in East Chicago this Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is at 2 p.m.
