Volleyball Battles Tough Foes On Final Day Of CCAC Crossover At GSU

UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. – The Roosevelt volleyball team took on stout conference competition at the CCAC Crossover hosted by Governors State University at the Athletics and Recreation Center on Friday and Saturday.

The Lakers opened the event by downing the host Jaguars in four sets, 25-20, 25-19, 15-25, 25-18, on Friday evening. Brooke Lee posted a match-high 15 kills while Maddy Cysewski added nine kills, and Mackenzie Bell assisted on 20 kills.

Roosevelt faced perennial powers on Saturday, opening against Trinity Christian on Saturday morning before closing out with Olivet Nazarene.

The Lakers held their own against the Trolls, falling in four frames (25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 25-14) that were mostly closely contested throughout. Lee had 17 kills and just four errors, while Abby Petroelje had 15 kills and Cysewski added 12. Mallory Nickelson posted 27 assists and 12 digs against a Trolls side that is 7-0 in CCAC play.

Roosevelt got off to a rough start against Olivet, falling 25-12 in the opening set before taking the next two stanzas into extra play. The Lakers fell narrowly each time, 26-24 and 27-25.

Petroelje led the Lakers with 13 kills, while Madison Dunbar posted 22 digs.

Roosevelt hosts Trinity International on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the Goodman Center.
