ELGIN, Ill. – Jose Garcia and Anibal Mendoza accounted for a goal and an assist each, rookie Lucas Garcia Bennett added a goal and the Roosevelt men's soccer team remained in the hunt for the CCAC regular season crown after defeating Judson, 3-1, on Saturday.
The Lakers improved to 8-6-0 overall and upped its CCAC mark to 7-1-0, sitting just a single point behind current conference leader Cardinal Stritch. The two sides tangle in Bridgeview next Saturday.
Roosevelt stunned the host Eagles (11-5-0, 5-4-0 CCAC) with a three-goal flurry that took place during an eight-minute span in the middle of the first half.
Mendoza struck first, gathering a ball from Garcia and knocking it into the net in the 19th minute for his second goal in as many games.
Garcia Bennett was next, converting a ball from Mendoza into his second collegiate goal in the 21st minute.
The senior was next up, as Garcia took a penalty kick in the 26th minute and easily knocked it in for his team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Judson cut its deficit down to two less than a minute later on Bruno Haianon's strike, but the scoring for both sides was capped there, and that was a good thing for the men in Green and White.
Gary Mendoza made three saves for the win.
Roosevelt hosts Saint Xavier at Toyota Park this Wednesday, Oct. 25th at 3 p.m.
