Moriarty Makes Five 3-Pointers, But Women's Basketball Upended By Governors State

CHICAGO – Jessica Moriarty made a career-best five three-point field goals en route to a career-high 15 points in leading three Lakers in double-figure scoring, but visiting Governors State outlasted the Roosevelt women's basketball team by a final of 68-57 inside the Goodman Center on Saturday.

Becca Bergman added 14 points while Paige Gallimore notched her fifth double-double of the year with 12 points and 10 rebounds and Chelsey Crippen registered eight blocks for the Lakers (10-12, 5-8 CCAC).

Achuynnua Robinson led all scorers with 19 points for the Jaguars (6-15, 5-8 CCAC).

Moriarty made a game-high five from downtown, but the Lakers struggled from beyond the arc compared to the amount of long-distance shots they took against the Jaguars. Roosevelt made just seven of 30 three-point shots for a 23-percent clip, as the Green and White missed all 12 of its second-half triple attempts.

While Roosevelt struggled shooting the basketball in the final 20 minutes, Governors State rebounded from its own first-half shooting woes by connecting on nearly 50 percent of its second-half shot attempts to outscore the Lakers 46-28 during the final two quarters.

The Lakers had led for much of the game up until Governors State's second-half burst during a sloppy clash in which both teams combined for 44 turnovers.

Roosevelt will look to bounce back quickly with a road trip that begins this Monday, Jan. 23 at Lincoln Christian.
