CHICAGO - Roosevelt University senior point guard Becky Williford (Naperville, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the period ending Dec. 27, the league announced on Tuesday, Dec. 29.
Williford earned the accolades by averaging 18.0 points, 4.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals in two games last week during the Roosevelt Holiday Hoops Tournament. Her performance also garnered Roosevelt Holiday Hoops All-Tournament Team honors.
The 5-3 senior floor general opened the tourney with a game-high 21 points in a 55-45 win over Ashford (Iowa) on Dec. 21. That output also helped her become the fourth player in Roosevelt history to surpass 1,000 points in a career.
The next day Williford posted 15 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals against Siena Heights (Mich.) in the tournament championship game.
Williford is averaging 15.3 points through 15 games to help Roosevelt to a 9-6 mark.
The Lakers are in Grand Rapids, Mich. to compete in the DU Holiday Classic hosted by Davenport (Mich.). Competition begins today at 4:30 p.m. against Cornerstone (Mich.).
