Zepeda, Garcia Score As Men's Soccer Blanks Saint Xavier

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. – Jaime Zepeda and Jose Garcia scored second-half goals, and the Roosevelt men's soccer team blanked Saint Xavier, 2-0, at Toyota Park on Saturday to stay unbeaten in CCAC play.

The Lakers (8-3-2, 6-0-1 CCAC) remained atop the CCAC table with their third straight win, extending their unbeaten streak to eight games in the process.

Jesus Velasco made a couple of saves to lead the Lakers to their fourth clean sheet in the last five games.

Saint Xavier (6-6-0, 3-3-0 CCAC) kept pace with the Green and White on the scoreboard during the first half despite an immense shot advantage for the hosts, as the Lakers unleashed 11 shots to just one SXU attempt during the match's first 45 minutes.

Zepeda finally got Roosevelt on the board with a nifty bending ball from deep on the right flank to beat keeper Frank Valle to the far post in the 51st minute.

The Cougars kept the Lakers on their toes, and Roosevelt cemented the decision in the 81st minute when Evan Trychta nearly mirrored Zepeda's action by sending in a bending ball from the right and toward the far post. On this instance, however, Trychta found the feet of a streaking Garcia for a beautifully-quick lethal finish that dashed any hopes for SXU to rally back.

Garcia now has a team-high nine goals.

Roosevelt hosts Trinity International at Toyota Park this Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 3:30 p.m.
