CHICAGO – Fresh off the biggest win in program history, the Roosevelt volleyball team ventures north to Milwaukee to take on Cardinal Stritch in a semifinal contest of the 2013 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Thursday night.
First serve for the semifinal between the seventh-seeded Lakers (25-13) and the third-seeded Wolves (27-11) at Panella Court is set for 7 p.m. Live coverage will be provided through the Wolves Sports Network here, with live stats also available here.
The winner of Thursday's Roosevelt-Stritch match advances to the CCAC championship match on Saturday, Nov. 16 against the winner of Thursday's Olivet Nazarene-Trinity Christian semifinal.
The Lakers advanced to the CCAC semifinals for the first time in the program's three-year history by upsetting second-seeded St. Francis convincingly in three sets, 25-22, 25-22, 25-20, on the Fighting Saints' home court in Joliet on Tuesday night.
Tuesday's victory was the first postseason win for the Roosevelt volleyball team and extended the Lakers' school-record single-season win total to 25 matches.
The Lakers were sound defensively in their sweep of St. Francis. Vanessa Owusu had five blocks, Valerie Cutrone had four blocks and Arielle Nausieda continued to lead the Lakers on the bump front with 14 digs.
Roosevelt and Stritch played two tough contests during the regular season, with the Wolves escaping the Goodman Center on Sept. 24 with a five-set decision and taking three close sets on their home court back on Oct. 29.
