Volleyball Catapults Past Calumet College Of St. Joseph In Four Sets

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - Vanessa Owusu and Valerie Cutrone combined for 25 kills, pacing the Roosevelt volleyball team to a four-set decision over Calumet College of St. Joseph, 25-18, 21-25, 25-12, 25-20, in the Lakers' first match at the CCAC Crossover hosted at Rober Morris' Athletic and Convocation Center on Friday.

Owusu contributed a match-best 14 kills to go along with six total blocks, while Cutrone registered a double-double of 11 kills and 11 digs.

Arielle Nausieda, who entered the day ranked 13th in the nation in total digs, added to her total with a match-best-tying 14 bumps.

Roosevelt (23-8, 8-4 CCAC) kept the Crimson Wave (6-23, 2-10 CCAC) at arm's length for much of the first set en route to a 25-18 decision.

CCSJ responded by taking the second set, but the Lakers came out with a purpose in the third. Roosevelt hit at a clip of .471, committing just two errors in 17 attacks while taking advantage of the Crimson Wave's misfortune (six attack errors) to pull ahead two sets to one after a decisive 13-point win.

The Lakers were unable to carry their hot hitting to the fourth frame, with eight errors credited to the Green and White attack, but Roosevelt forced CCSJ to a match-worst -.074 percentage on the attack to hold off the Wave.

Roosevelt returns to action at the CCAC Crossover in Arlington Heights with a pair of league tilts on the horizon against IU South Bend and St. Francis.
