Bridgeview, Ill. – Sophomore Antonio Periera's hat trick propelled No. 7 Bethel (Tenn.) to a 6-0 victory over the Roosevelt men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon at Toyota Park.
Periera tallied goals in the 29th and 38th minutes to stake the Wildcats (3-1) to a 2-0 lead at intermission. The Brazilian they made the score 3-0 in the 58th minute, beating Lakers keeper Jake Cigelnik after an initial service into the box ping-ponged between several players.
Bethel, which bounced back after dropping a 1-0, overtime decision at Robert Morris on Friday night, added three more goals in last 22 minutes for the final 6-0 margin. Mohammed Dumbuya recorded one of the late tallies after notching assists on Periera's first two goals.
Roosevelt (1-2-3) recorded just two shots on the day, forcing Bethel keeper Christopher Baker to make just one save en route to shutout. The Wildcats, meanwhile, took 22 shots, putting 11 on frame.
The Lakers will be back in action on Tuesday, taking the short trip across town to square off with Moody Bible at 4:00 p.m.
