Bridgeview, Ill. – The Roosevelt men's soccer team was unable to upend the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference's top side as visiting Saint Xavier shutout the Lakers 3-0 on Saturday at Toyota Park.
The Cougars (11-4-1, 7-1-1) wasted little time getting on the scoreboard with Tom Lojak converting a centering pass from Kyle Breitenbach in the 9th minute. Saint Xavier scored again 12 minutes later with Lorenzo Savino finding the back of the net after a long run through the Roosevelt defense.
The Lakers (2-11-3, 1-8-0) didn't back down in the final 45 minutes, pressing offensively to get back in the game. Roosevelt took seven shots and forced Cougars keeper Kyle Held to make three saves in the half, but couldn't put a tally on the board.
Saint Xavier put the match away in the 86th minute on a goal by Brandon Simoes.
The Lakers return to the pitch on Tuesday when they travel to take on Cardinal Stritch.
