Felix Ponce

Felix Ponce serves as the Lakers Band Instructor in collaboration with Chandler Sullivan. In this role, Felix has helped establish the newer Lakers Band as their presence increases at athletic events around campus. Under his leadership, the band has seen a constant increase in membership and a diversification of the repertoire performed at on campus events responding to current trends in music.

Outside of Roosevelt, Felix is the Director of Bands at Harold L. Richards High School where he leads the Concert Band, Wind Symphony, Marching Band, and Jazz Band. In just his second year, the program has seen success with Division I performances, caption awards for best brass at the Midwest Music Festival, and most recently a third place finish for the Marching Band at the Providence Catholic Marching Band invitational.

Felix has also devoted his career to building new programs at various places in the city of Chicago. Those notable accomplishments include establishing a jazz program at The People’s Music School, creating a 100+ member band program at Back of the Yards College Prep, and serving on several Chicago Public Schools committees that improved curriculum and assessment for the entire district. Felix is also a two time quarterfinalist for the Music Educator Grammy and served as a member on the board of directors for the Chicago Wind Symphony.
