Roosevelt University Director of Athletics John Jaramillo has announced the appointment of Constanza Gorches as head coach of the Lakers men’s and women’s tennis programs.
“It is a tremendous day for Roosevelt University and Roosevelt Tennis as we welcome Constanza Gorches as our new head tennis coach,” said Jaramillo. “Her experience playing the game at a high level and coaching the sport across a variety of levels will be a huge boost for our current student-athletes as well as future Lakers.”
“Just as strong as Constanza's tennis background are her first-class character, humility, kindness, organizational skills, communication, and emphasis on the student-athletes experience,” added Jaramillo. “She has a vision for Roosevelt Tennis on and off the court, and I look forward to supporting her in making that vision a reality and making our tennis teams better in every way.”
Hailing from Mexico City, Gorches began her collegiate tennis career at NCAA Division I Clemson University, where she played two season and earned ACC All-Academic Team honors in 2017 before transferring to the University of North Florida.
At the University of North Florida, she won two Atlantic Sun Conference team championships and was part of the ASUN Conference’s Doubles Pair of the Year in 2021. In addition, Gorches earned ASUN Honor Roll honors three times and ITA Division I Scholar-Athlete recognition in 2021. She went on to graduate with both a Bachelor of Business Administration in management and Master of Business Administration degree from the university.
Prior to her collegiate career, Gorches represented Mexico in more than 15 international events, including twice at the Junior Fed Cup. She was also the top-rated junior in Mexico and ranked #126 in the ITF.
Gorches has coaching experience at the Oak Park Tennis Center in River Forest, Ill. where she worked with more than 50 players per week, creating custom training programs and drills to assist clients with tennis fitness and development. She also coached a Mexican junior player in 2020 and two American junior players in the USTA tournaments around the Midwest in 2019.
“I am very excited to be part of the Roosevelt University family,” said Gorches. “As a coach, I want my team to have a great experience on and off the court, and Roosevelt University is a great place for it to happen. The program has a strong foundation for success and I am looking forward to creating an opportunity for student-athletes to have a great time, learn, and develop as tennis players and as people.”
“I thank assistant athletic director Kyle Decker for leading this search process and associate director of athletics Tom Czop and deputy director of athletics Jared Williamson for their work and critical input during this search,” stated Jaramillo. “Constanza is an outstanding addition to Roosevelt Athletics and the Roosevelt University community, and I am excited to see what is ahead for Roosevelt Tennis because of her leadership.”
