Men's Hockey Loses Pair of ACHA Division I Games to Davenport

BENSENVILLE, Ill. – The Roosevelt University men's hockey team dropped a pair of ACHA Division I games to Davenport University, losing by the score of 5-3 on Friday, January 14 and 6-2 on Saturday, January 15 at The Edge in Bensenville, Ill.  The losses dropped the Lakers overall record to 4-18 on the year.

In Friday night's game, the Lakers recorded all the scoring in the first period with Josef Martancik giving the home team a 1-0 lead at 11:41 on a Jake Hermann assist.  However, the Panthers controlled the second period and scored goals at 9:16 and at 19:42 just before the end of the period to lead 2-1 at the second intermission.

Davenport upped its lead to 3-1 halfway through the third before Turner Cepuritis made it a 3-2 contest on assists from Martancik and Tanner Hallett at the 14:57 mark.  The Panthers answered back just over a minute later to restore their two-goal lead, but the Lakers made things interesting with a power play goal by Curtis Hartman with just over a minute and a half remaining with Frank Moore and Martancik assisting.  With the Roosevelt goaltender pulled, the Panthers sealed the game with an empty net goal in the final minute for the 5-3 victory.

Game two of the weekend series started off promising for the Lakers with the home team jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead.  Zach Brumm scored at 3:31 on assists by Martancik and Brett Dudek, and then Hallett lit the lamp just 25 seconds later on another Martancik assist.

Unfortunately, these would be the only two goals of the game for RU, while Davenport evened the game up with two first period goals of their own.  The Panthers then added two goals in both the second and third periods to take the series with the 6-2 win.
