BENSENVILLE, Ill. – The Roosevelt University ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team lost two games this past weekend to 24th ranked University of Illinois, falling 6-1 on Friday, October 15 and 7-1 on Saturday, October 16 at The Edge Ice Arena. The Lakers are now 0-4 overall and in CSCHL League play this season.
Friday's game was a scoreless affair after one period with the Fighting Illini holding a 15-9 shot advantage. Both teams were unable to find the net again for the first half of the second period before Illinois scored on a power play at the 9:45 mark for a 1-0 lead. The Fighting Illini added two more goals at 16:38 and 18:49 of the period to head into the second intermission with a 3-0 lead.
Just under four minutes into the third period, Illinois upped its lead to 4-0 before Tanner Hallett scored his first goal of the year for the Lakers with Cade Swygert getting credit with the assist. However, the Fighting Illinois added two more goals in the final stanza for the 6-1 victory.
In game two of the weekend series, Illinois jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 11:10 mark. The Lakers answered back five minutes later on an AJ Bailey goal with Bowie Slarks picking up the assist, and the opening period ended tied at 1-1.
The second period was all Fighting Illini, with the visitors scoring four straight goals to take a commanding 5-1 advantage. Illinois would add on two goals in the final minute of the game for the 7-1 final score.
